My experience as an art educator goes back many years. More recently, I’ve focused on providing healing and resiliency  art sessions for individuals in homeless shelters, inner-city schools, mental health facilities, law enforcement, and correctional institutions. These workshops are as varied as the individuals participating in them, although there is always one commonality, the desire to express oneself. This need is first met by creating a positive, inviting, atmosphere. Once the stage is set, I provide a thematic idea to explore, along with visual examples to inspire  creativity. 

Instead of  only using one material such as pencils, markers, paint, etc., I prefer encouraging a mixed-media approach. This allows for an open and organic art-making experience, providing more freedom and less concern about technical proficiency. The resulting works never fail to amaze, both in their aesthetic purity, as well as, knowing that someone had an opportunity to create, connect, heal, and make their mark in this world.
